I made this a few years ago, it’s an arcade stick using a Microsoft 360 controller for the guts. Sanwa JLF joystick and Seimitsu buttons. Curly maple case, this was one of the first few woodworking projects I had done since a ramshackle birdhouse or two. I think the difference was patience, scouring forums for information and most of all motivation. Birdhouses don’t motivate me unless its something different than six boards and a hole. Sapphire blue transtint dye, then sanded back leaving dye in the grain only, finally dyed once more for the tiger-stripe pop. Finished with Minwax Polycrylic. A little taller than a usual arcade stick, but I wanted to preserve as much of that nice wood surface as possible.  Buttons utilize the 360’s 5volt connection for LEDs as well as blue LEDs hooked up to the 3volt connections of the removed rumble controllers.

All bubbered up.

This reminds me that I failed wood shop in junior high. Actually worse, I got an incomplete.  I believe I attempted to make a triangular dresser like the Three Stooges drew up in one of their carpentry skits “Slippery Silks.” All the wood I had access to in the shop was warped. It was a too difficult task for a complete novice. Maybe one day I’ll make that damn thing proper.
